After winning their 26th consecutive district championship last season, the St. Philip High School varsity volleyball team is looking keep things rolling in 2026 as the team brings back all but one player from last year’s roster. For the past four years, the Tigers’ season has ended in the regional round. Head coach Vicky Groat says moving on to the next round is a major goal heading into the new season and added that she wants to see more consistency on offense this fall. “This season, we are looking to take the next step and get past the regional round,” said Groat. “One of our biggest areas of improvement will be becoming more consistent offensively. We want to do a better job of involving more hitters in our offense and creating a more balanced attack.” St. Philip brings back five out six of their starters from last season including senior setter Addi Dzwik, senior middle blocker Adriana Olsen, sophomore outside hitter Quinn Dzwik, senior defensive specialist Mylee Grimm and senior opposite hitter Ava Hood. Other returners include junior Olivia Burke, junior Leah Downey, senior Ellery Downey, sophomore Rehna Weiss and senior Ellie Jaconette. This season, for the first time, St. Philip will be co-oping with Calhoun Christian. This merger brings in three new players: junior Olivia Rugg, junior Riley Lauer and sophomore Alaina Lauer. Additionally, junior Ellen Reynolds will be making her varsity debut this year. Guided by their experienced core, Groat says this year’s team is set to compete for a state championship. “Our experience is one of our biggest strengths heading into the season,” the coach said. “We are a senior-led team, which gives us a strong foundation of experience, leadership and confidence on the court.
